Perumal Movie Review

Permual Movie Review

Starring:Sundar C, Namitha, Vivek, Meenakshi, Kota Srinivas Rao
Direction:Vincent Selva
Music:Srikanth Deva
Camera:Banu Murugan

Story:

Perumal (Sundar C) works for a travels company. His job takes him to Andhra Pradesh, where he meets Alamu (Meenakshi). A doctor, Alamu is a damsel in distress. She is witness to a crime and the criminals are chasing her. She meets Perumal, who promises to help her. He brings her to Chennai with him and uses his wits and strength to fight the rowdies.

Ofcourse there are several other characters in the story, the main being Venkaiah (Kota Srinivas Rao). He is the don of Cudappa area in Andhra Pradesh. His son Bhadra (played by newcomer Sudhir) is a knife wielding criminal who has no respect for the law (not surprising!) He assists his father in the business of fake medicines, thus resulting in the death of several innocent children. Alamu who works in a government hospital takes this issue to the hospital chief but Bhadra kills him. Alamu captures the murder on her mobile phone camera (the advantages on technology!). But Bhadra sees her and along with her men chases her. She then meets Perumal, who promises to help her in her fight for justice.

The rest of the cast includes Vivek, who plays a Tamizhan and a Telugu. The Telugu character is hilarious. He is the brother of Saroja (Namitha- the glamour quotient), a thief in love with Perumal (no twist there!). The movie is interlaced with some interesting comedy sequences between Sundar C and Vivek. Namitha also has her moments.

Vincent Selva has tried to tell a socially relevant tale with the usual doses of masala. Though the heart is the right place, the movie lacks a strong storyline and better characterisations. Cinematographer Banu Murugan makes his debut with this film. His work his commendable.

Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS)

Story:

Vikatan Talkies makes this Valentine’s Day very special for movie lovers. Their Siva Manasula Sakthi (SMS) is releasing this Friday, a day before V Day. Director Rajesh says SMS will be a treat to all those who plan to take their valentines to a romantic movie on V Day.

With a beautiful love story, attractive new heroine Anuya and famous hero Jiiva, SMS is a perfect Kollywood love story.

But beware all you girls, because the beautiful Anuya Bhagvat is sure to steal your valentine’s heart! This attractive young girl – a student of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune – has got it all that it takes to be a numero uno Kollywood heroine. Above all, she looks equally beautiful both in ethnic and fashionable wear, something that young Tamil film audiences look for in every heroine.

Insiders say the onscreen chemistry between her and Jiiva is excellent, a glimpse of which we have seen in the film’s promos. Energetic Jiiva is having a good run in the industry. His recent Thenavettu did very well, transforming him into a complete action hero of Kollywood. In SMS, we will get to see him doing a romantic role again; the variety is sure to do a world of good for Jiiva.

SMS heavily relies on these lead actors who have brought alive the screenplay. Plus Yuvanshankar Raja’s music perfectly complements the film’s mood, making SMS rich in all the ingredients that today’s youngsters expect from a romantic film.

With SMS this Valentine’s Day has just gotten more romantic!
